School is getting ready to start here in the Highline School District. Now that every office supply store has naked shelves, our kids are ready to go. New backbacks, new shoes, new clothes, new lunchbox, and a new attitude. Well not quite. Approaching the 2008-2009 school year and the onset of soccer practices are bringing back brrrrrrr memories! Parents and grandparents will soon be huddled together again, while our maniac children feverishly kick the ball around.

There are 33 public schools in the Highline District, for a list of them and details for each individual public school click here.
If you would like to research Private schools in the Burien area; you will find K-8 offered at St. Francis of Assisi and grades 9th-12th offered at JF Kennedy High School. For a comprehensive look at these two schools, click here.

Are you a first time home buyer? Do you need a helping hand? It can be a scary process buying a home and you may feel like you have a million hoops to jump through. If you are considering moving to the Burien area, there are condos priced just over $100k. Burien is great if you need to commute to Seattle, work at Seatac Airport, or if you are a student. The graph below shows what real estate sold for, during the month of August. As you can see, two 1 bed/1bath condos in the downtown Burien area sold for just over $100k. Our most popular selling price range was $300k-$350k. There are 87 homes active on the market right now in that price range. This will get you a nice 4 bed/2.5 bath.

If you are a first time home buyer and you need some direction, just give me a call. Danita Jolly, licensed Realtor, 206-412-3699

I never get tired of our Puget Sound views. Burien has miles and miles of beach and mountains that make for a perfectly breathtaking sunset view. Take a look at these photos taken at Three Tree Point and Seahurst Park:

One huge benefit of living in Burien…you’re only 1.62 miles away from Nordstroms. I just recently visited our new Westfield Mall in Tukwila and now there are so many more reasons to celebrate! The only words that come to mind are; yipee!! yoo-hoo!! OMG I’m so excited!! I met a friend at Joey’s the other day and only had 20 minutes to dissect everything. That got eaten right up in Sephora. $200 in 20 minutes, thank goodness I didn’t have an hour.

Being able to go to Joey’s so close to home, yummy tuna tacos, I feel so blessed.

A two story Forever 21…if the picture is blury, it’s because my hands were shaking from excitment.

And a new AMC Theater. The seats and sound are awesome. My kids and I just saw the creepy Batman movie there. You get to put the butter on the popcorn yourself and they have milk duds too, my favorite

Valet parking is on the Southside for $6.00

There is also Duke’s Chowderhouse, Racha Thai & Asian Kitchen, and Blue C Sushi. For a full directory click here.

Look who’s new in town…

Actually, it’s a much friendlier face. Ronnie Santone, owner of Hey Paison here in Burien.

Ronnie is pointing at his homemade meatballs which are hand-rolled using beef, veal and pork and soaked in tomato “gravy”. He’s smiling because he knows you’re going to love it!
Even though Hey Paison has only been open for a short time, they have already earned an award. Recognized by www.nwsource.com as one of the top 10 Deli’s in Seattle. So what’s on the menu? Their famous Philly Cheesesteak, Eggplant Parmesan Sandwich, the Peppers ‘n’ Eggs Hoagies, Italian Porkette and Roast Beef Hoagies, not to mention the special Italian soup called Pasta Fagioli.
Ronnie claims to make the best cheesecake, which is being carried by Whole Foods market, which gives him bragging rights. Go see Ronnie, eat good food, and listen to some Sinatra. Hey Paison is located at 641 152nd Ave. S.W. Burien, 206-631-8668. Hours M-W 11:00-6, Thur-Sat 11-7, Sunday 11:30-4pm.
