Seattle’s Inaugural Rock-N-Roll Marathon

Posted by danita jolly 1 Comment »

Seattle is having it’s very first Rock-N-Roll Marathon and 1/2 marathon on Saturday, June 27th 2009.  Seattle is the eighth city to join in the Rock-N-Roll Marathon series.  This race will be broadcast nationally, showing off how beautiful Seattle is during the summer months.  Luckily our summers are never too hot, providing the perfect running weather.

It will be taking the place of the Sea-fair Marathon.  Organizers hope to attract at least 15,000 runners, including elite-level international competitors aiming for the approximate $100,000 in total prize money.  The course is from Tukwila to Seattle, and scheduled to finish at Qwest Field.  After the race, all runners, walkers and event volunteers will be treated to a post-race concert at Marymoor Park.

This marathon is a Boston qualifier.  Featuring 70 live bands and 40 cheer teams! To find out more about the Seattle Rock-N-Roll Marathon, visit the website here.

If you live in the Burien area and are interesting in joining a local running group that is training for the 1/2 marathon, send me an email at jdjolly@msn.com (Danita).  If you’ve never experienced this level of performance, it is the most exhilarating experience.  Here is a picture of me crossing the finish line after 23.2 miles at my very first marathon in Portland.

Why run a marathon or 1/2 marathon?  Whether you think you can or not…you can.  I went to California to watch my very best friend Julie do her first marathon.  As I stood at the finish line, I watched people with prosthetic legs, heart transplants, every age and size cross the finish line.  Inspiration overcame me, so after going back home I attempted my very first ‘run’.  I was gasping for air after 1/8 of a mile.  Completely out of shape and weighing 180lbs.  All my friends looked at me like I was crazy and said, “don’t you think your being a little over zealous?”  Oh no, I’m going for the gold!  It’s not easy and it takes dedication, but the reward is something that no one can take away from you.

Really? More Halloween stuff…Boo in Burien

Posted by danita jolly No Comments »

We have a lot of Halloween celebrating going on around Burien.  Yesterday was the Boo in Burien that you all know about.  Burien Town Square says that they gave out over 1,500 pieces of candy! I’m not suprised because the streets were packed with munckins.  I love seeing our community so alive and well.

I was hanging out at Hey Paison, our favorite Italian Sandwich Shop, and people watched for an hour.  I saw this little kangaroo hop by a couple of times.

While having lunch with a friend, the comment was made as to how ‘alive’ Burien feels.  I do have to agree, especially with Burien Town Square adding such a visual presence.  Seeing something built from the ground up and flourishing into a finished product lends to a feeling of anticipation for all of us that pass by it everyday.  If you need more info about the condos and townhomes at BTS, stop by and visit these fabulous girls located at 455 SW 152ND St Burien, WA 98166 (206) 901-0000

St. Francis of Assisi Harvest Festival Celebration

Posted by danita jolly No Comments »

Every year St. Francis of Assisi has a great fundraising event.  The Harvest Festival Celebration!

Parents decorated their cars for the kids to trunk-n-treat in.  We gave out pounds and piles of candy and the kids were so cute!

This is one school shirt that I won’t be getting clean!

There were games, prizes, karaoke, and inflatables for the kids.  It was a great turnout since the weather was so agreeable this year.  It’s a wonderful way to participate in community events.  I ran into old neighbors of mine who came for the celebration.  They had six children attend St. Francis years ago.  Mick Kelly’s Irish Pub supplied a beer and wine garden with Irish singing entertainment.

B&E Meats Can Custom Processes your catch!

Posted by danita jolly No Comments »

Check out this picture of a 35lb Chinook Salmon that my friend recently caught, along with a King, Silver and Steel-head.  Living in the Northwest provides many opportunities for outdoor fishing and hunting.

B&E Meats is the only place to get the best and freshest meats and seafood in Burien.  The crew at B&E are also known for their great customer service as I mentioned before. Did you know you can also have any game or salmon that you catch custom processed there?  I didn’t, but I don’t hunt and fish that much.  They can cut and wrap, grind and wrap, make jerky, sausages, fillet, smoke and more.  If you are interested, go visit them at 15003 Ambaum Blvd. S.W.  Burien, Washington or call for more details 206-243-1900.  Ask for Andy, he’s the one that helped with this big fish.

Looking for a new look? Try Hair Extensions

Posted by danita jolly No Comments »

If you have a fun holiday party or trip to Mexico coming up, hair extensionsare a quick way to change your look for an event or for a whole season.  You can add highlites or lowlights easily without damaging your hair.  Thicken up a short style you already have.  Add length by 2 inches or 2 feet.  There are several types of hair extensions out there and available.   The two that I favor are SoCap and Great Lengths

They are both 100% human hair with great protein bonds.  Great Lengths extensions are extremely popular and depending on your style and maintenance, can last 3-5 months.  SoCap extensions are a somewhat less expensive choice and they have some fun colors and designs but may not be as durable in my opinion, though both are exceptional!   Check out these before and after pictures as one example.

This type of extension is individually bonded to your hair.  Ranging from 50 bonds to 400 bonds depending on the desired outcome.  There are also other types of extensions out there that are less expensive, but some are synthetic which cannot be straightened or curled.  The bond is one of the most important aspects when getting hair extensions and both of these products have awesome bonds in comparison to many others I’ve seen.  If you would like to know more about Great Lengths or SoCap and are interested in a consultation, send me an email at jdjolly@msn.com

Staying ‘Ahead Of The Curve’ on the Technological Super Highway

Posted by danita jolly No Comments »

Below is an interesting article from James Lupori, author of Kenmore Undressed.  Which got me thinking about all the technology available to us.  Then today, just to drive the issue home my son refused to drink out of a day old water bottle because the water might not be purified enough.  It was all I could do not to say, “Hey you, we didn’t have purified water when I was a kid, we had to carry a bucket of water uphill, both ways, make a fire and boil it before drinking it!!”  Ok, so maybe I’m 40 and exaggerating just a bit and this doesn’t have much to do with technology but we do have some things pretty easy nowadays.  Then his second grade friend gave a power point presentation with a laptop in school the other day…wow!  My grandparents can’t even operate their thermostat.

Quoting James Lupori, he mentions that keeping up with technology is like “drinking from a fire hose”, now that’s the truth.  Be sure and read the whole article to check out the Top 100 Tools for Learning 2008
How are you dealing with all of the technological changes in your life? Let’s face it, iPods, computers, telecommunication technology and other tools have literally transformed our world. I don’t know about you in your career but as a Realtor (c) it’s incredibly important that I keep up with a MASSIVE amount of information. I must also adapt to new communication technology (phone and computer) and I need to distill all of this “stuff” into a coherent package (or toolkit) that I can use to be effective in my work as a real estate agent. This very blog is the result of a huge number of technologies working together. Trying to keep up is like drinking through a fire hose. It wasn’t so long ago that things were……..different:

I went to high school in the early and mid 1970’s….you know, we had disco and high inflation (or stagflation..I can never remember which), the unpopular Vietnam War was raging on and we had any number of other crises from OPEC’s gas embargo to to Richard Nixon’s plumber’s union. I sure some of you don’t remember that there was even a “Cold War” going on. Basically, humanity was wrestling with some fairly complicated issues. Looking back, it’s hard to believe our troops in Vietnam couldn’t just email family and friends, the President had to call the Soviets on the “red phone” if there was a dispute or misunderstanding. We barely had VCR’s and video games. Computers were rare. In fact, my high school had a couple of small computers that only the most dedicated math geniuses could fathom. When I look back on it, it’s as if we were moving through time in the dark. How anything got done is a miracle……….

Beauty Products and Shopping for my friends in Burien

Posted by danita jolly No Comments »

Recently, my girlfriend from Denver came for a visit.  Always in the know of the latest trends and fashions, I look forward to her annual trip for inspirational beauty tricks.

If you are shopping for any of the great beauty products below, these all come highly recommended.  Love Them!!!

  • The Chi iron is remarkable.  Regardless of how curly your hair is, this iron can take care of it.  Even if you only have a wave in your hair, after using the Chi Flat Iron your hair will look shiny.  Due to the negative ions it doesn’t damage your hair.
  • The Smashbox Photo Finish is perfect for under your makeup, your skin will look more even and smooth.  There are different colors depending on your needs.  Green to tone out red, clear and purple for other specific needs.
  • The Mystic Tan is the best I’ve every tried when it comes to self tanners.  Creates the perfect color!  Sprays on for even distribution.
  • The Laura Mercier tinted moisterizer with spf 20 leaves your complexion flawless and natural.
  • The Madonna Cd I had to add because it’s great and I’m going to the concert with my friend in Denver soon.

I hope you like these recommendations and if you have any beauty tips or information you would like to share with Burien shoppers.  Send me an email at jdjolly@msn.com
