I asked one of our local Burien Artists, Lory Newsom her thoughts on the upcoming celebration:
“I am totally excited about the incredible opportunity that our little town of Burien is getting, through the installation of the Passage. I have lived here my entire life and knowing that we will hold this awesome sculpture of mother and child which has also been looking over the San Fransisco Bay is pretty exciting. Can’t wait for the opening. As an artist, I love it when something is made out of nothing, it thrills me. I love use, reuse, recycle.” Visit Lory’s art at weepingwaxstudio.com or http:weepingwax.blogspot.com

On January 24, Burien will unveil a project that transforms a vacant construction site into a public gathering place for community members of all ages. One of the first of its kind in the Country, the Burien/ Interim Art Space project is a year-long experiment to turn a block of Burien Town Square into a temporary sculptural garden where art and space are intrinsically re-envisioned.
The B/ IAS project has been many months in the making and has engaged a number of community partners including the Burien Arts Commission, Urban Partners, City of Burien, Ignition NW, GGLO , and 4Culture. The interim art space occupies Phase 2 of Burien Town Square, a project, like many others that was placed on hold due to the current economic climate.
Rather than suffer the stark void of a vacant site in the downtown core, Burien Arts Commission Board Members Kathy Justin and Dane Johnson approached property owner, Urban Partners, about using the site for an interim art space. Long-time supporter of the arts, Urban Partners was happy to donate their land for an ambitious project like B/ IAS. With this donation and the on-going support from City of Burien, Ignition NW, GGLO, and 4-Culture, Kathy and Dane moved forward with plans to transform the site into an interim art space. A 30′ sculpture of a mother and child, The Passage will be the first artwork installed in the new Burien/ Interim Art Space (B/ IAS). This impressive sculpture is being transported from its current location on the Embarcadero in San Francisco. The Passage was originally created for Burning Man, built from recycled scrap metal, and features a flame between the hands of the mother and child, water falling from their other hands, and footprints also lighted with flames. The sculpture will only have the flames lighted for special events. Picture here
The B/ IAS grand opening event starts at 3 p.m. with a pre-event artists’ reception at the Burien Town Square sales center, followed by a processional to the interim arts space, and the lighting of The Passage, which features both flames and water. Other sculptures will be introduced, also featuring interactivity and flame.
Please mark your calendars for the afternoon of Saturday, January 24th, and we will see you at this exciting community event.

Don’t let the dust fool you. Things are really starting to take shape at our new Burien town Square. It might be hard to imagine, but this is a picture of the future park.

The opportunity to enjoy a maintenance free lifestyle, with easy access to downtown Seattle or to Sea-tac airport can still be yours. Imagine how nice it would be to walk out your front door and grab a coffee or relax during a spa treatment. Several shops and services will be right there at your fingertips available to you. Here is a picture of some of those future retail shops…

As of today a Studio starts at $236,950
*One bedroom/one bath+den starts at $324,950
*Two bedroom/two bath starts at $415,950
*There are also some decadent townhomes for those with expensive tastes!
This would be a great opportunity for students, commuters, travelers, downsizers and investors. There are only a few investment opportunities left. The Presentation Center is located at 455 S.W. 152nd Street, or you can give the friendly team a call directly at 206-901-0000
