Review on Burien Restaurants-NW Source Seattle Times

Posted by danita jolly No Comments »

Seattle Times food writer Nancy Leson serves up the best info and tips on Northwest food, cooking, dining and restaurants.  Nancy is a woman after my own heart, recently writing about a few of my favorite places in Burien.  Check out her article here.  I’m always glad to have another person raving that I can quote…

I don’t get to Burien much. In fact, the last time I was there it was to sing the praises of the Elliott Bay Brewhouse & Pub, and that was too long ago according to Guy and Pam Harper. The Burien couple wrote last week to put in the good word for several local dining places.

“Mick Kelly’s Irish Pub is excellent and was named Burien’s Outstanding Business for the year 2007,” they said. “They have raised thousands of dollars for various causes through auctions and donations.” The Harpers are also fans of the “low-key and enjoyable” 909 Coffee & Wine — “a wonderful place to meet for lunch and dinner.” And their review of Bistro Baffi Italian Cuisine – “a very, very fine restaurant” owned by a chef and host Michael Vujovich, is “simply outstanding” in their estimation.

Anyway, when we got skunked Sunday night after arriving, with two hungry kids at the unexpectedly closed Abruzzi’s in Normandy Park (after driving an hour, in the snow, as I mentioned yesterday), Nate’s best friend Ciara was on the same page as the Harpers: “Let’s go to Mick Kelly’s!” she shouted. And so we did:

A Successful Grand Opening for Sidestreet Kitchen & Bar

Posted by danita jolly 2 Comments »

We couldn’t miss the Grand Opening of Burien’s new neighborhood restaurantSidestreet Kitchen & Bar.  It was an obvious success with a great turnout full of friendly faces and smiles!

Don’t just take my word for it, read Gloria’s review in the comment section on our previous article about Sidestreet.  Great atmosphere, great food at reasonable prices!  Not only was owner, Dan Davis cooking up yummy food, but he was out mingling and greeting with a smile.

Here are a few of the items that were on the opening night menu; Herb Roasted Olives, Rosemary & Brown Butter Popcorn, Blackened Ahi Tuna w/Korean Style Cucumber Salad (this was our appy and it was spicy and delicious), 1/2 pound Cheeseburger with Caramelized Onions, BLT Iceberg Wedge, Grilled Flat Iron Steak with Roasted Mushrooms & Herb Frites.  On tap you can find $3.00 Rainere, $4.00 Manny’s in addition to Snow Cap Bridgeport IPA and more.  There was an abundance of staff to attend to everyone.  Water was always full, and don’t forget the plasma screen for sporting events.  Stay tuned for menu updates, events and features at the Sidestreet Kitchen & Bar!

Come See Steve Olson at 909 in Burien-December 27th

Posted by danita jolly 1 Comment »

I had the pleasure to stop into 909 awhile back and Steve Olson was playing.  It was my favorite music they’ve had there so far.  Steve provides a pleasant atmosphere and really great music to listen to or sing along.  It’s worth going out of your way to make plans to come by and enjoy yourself.

Steve Olson will be returning to the 909 Coffee and Wine Bistro  http://burien909.com/  on Saturday night, December 27th from 8:30 to 11:30.  The last time I played there it was FANTASTIC!.  This is a really nice little place to sit and relax and listen to music and have some extremely good food.  It is not a large venue so if you plan on making it please call ahead at 206-243-7909 to make reservations.  I really hope to see you there again or for your first time. I know you’ll love this place.

Hey Paison has Won Best Deli for all of Western Washington!

Posted by danita jolly 1 Comment »

I got the call from Ronnie Santone, owner of Hey Paison who offers us a piece of Italy right here in Burien.  Hey Paison has officially won the Evening Magazine contest, mentioned in a previous Hey Paison article.  Ronnie’s Italian Sandwich shop reins over all other Western Washington Deli’s.

With 116 reviews and maintaining a 5 star rating on the King 5 website.  This number more than doubled and in some cases tripled the competitions review numbers.

Why is Hey Paison becoming so popular?  It’s a combination of great flavor, home-made secret family recipes, and the feeling of being at home.

Here’s Ronnie getting ready for his tv debut with the Evening Magazine camera man.  Thank you to Burien for all your support and votes to help put Hey Paison and Burien on the map!  Check out Evening Magazine on October 29th when Hey Paison will be featured.

The Tin Room in Burien is now open for Lunch!

Posted by danita jolly No Comments »

Great news for Burien residents, our favorite local hang-out in is now open for lunch.  We noticed The Tin Room was open and stopped in for an afternoon mmmm… martini today.  Owner, Dan always has a smile on his face!  Our favorite server Kelly was there too!  What do I love about The Tin Room?  It’s comfortable, warm, friendly, they make fresh squeezed juice in their drinks, the music is always great, upbeat, loud on weekends, tealights to make it cozy, and you’ll always see someone you know.  Every time I bring a friend, comments are made about how cool Burien is becoming.

Open for lunch from 11-3 and located at 923 S.W. 152nd St. in Burien.

Hey Paison-Authentic Italian Sandwiches in Burien

Posted by danita jolly No Comments »

Look who’s new in town…

Actually, it’s a much friendlier face.  Ronnie Santone, owner of Hey Paison here in Burien.

Ronnie is pointing at his homemade meatballs which are hand-rolled using beef, veal and pork and soaked in tomato “gravy”.  He’s smiling because he knows you’re going to love it!

Even though Hey Paison has only been open for a short time, they have already earned an award.  Recognized by www.nwsource.com as one of the top 10 Deli’s in Seattle.  So what’s on the menu?  Their famous Philly Cheesesteak, Eggplant Parmesan Sandwich, the Peppers ‘n’ Eggs Hoagies, Italian Porkette and Roast Beef Hoagies, not to mention the special Italian soup called Pasta Fagioli.

Ronnie claims to make the best cheesecake, which is being carried by Whole Foods market, which gives him bragging rights.  Go see Ronnie, eat good food, and listen to some Sinatra.  Hey Paison is located at 641 152nd Ave. S.W.  Burien, 206-631-8668.  Hours M-W 11:00-6, Thur-Sat 11-7, Sunday 11:30-4pm.
